To provide a wave-absorbing block gripping device and a wave-absorbing block gripping method capable of gripping a wave-absorbing block by turning the same from an upright position to a butterfly position.SOLUTION: In the process of lifting a wave-absorbing block 1 held in the upright position by a holding device 10, legs 2C, 2D of the wave-absorbing block 1 are guided by attachments 65, 75 of lower arms 61, 71 and tilted by a couple force, and a leg 2A is received by a receiving device installed between the pair of lower arms 61, 71. This allows the wave-absorbing block 1 to be turned from the upright position to the butterfly position and held.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
