To provide a speed reducer capable of ensuring safety of escalator users.SOLUTION: An escalator speed reducer 117 comprises: a housing 201 to accommodate lubricant therein; a brake shaft through hole 403 passing through a side face of the housing 201; a brake shaft 206 passing through the brake shaft through hole 403; and an oil seal 301 provided between the brake shaft through hole 403 and the brake shaft 206. In the speed reducer, a groove 302 is provided in a side face of the housing 201 which is a bottom side in a vertical direction of the brake shaft 206. This configuration can prevent leaked lubricant from travelling along the brake shaft 206 to reach the brake, so as to be capable of ensuring safety of escalator users.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】エスカレーターの利用者の安全性を確保すること。【解決手段】内部に潤滑剤を収容する筐体201と、筐体201の側面を貫通するブレーキ軸用貫通孔403と、ブレーキ軸用貫通孔403を貫通するブレーキ軸206と、ブレーキ軸用貫通孔403とブレーキ軸206との間に設けられたオイルシール301と、を備えたエスカレーター減速機117において、筐体201の側面であって、ブレーキ軸206の鉛直方向における下側に溝302を設けた。これにより、漏れ出した潤滑油がブレーキ軸206を伝ってブレーキに到達することを防止でき、エスカレーターの利用者の安全性を確保することができる。【選択図】図3
