To obtain a parking assistance system, a mechanical car parking facility, and a method with which it is possible to ensure with greater reliability that a vehicle or a mechanical car parking facility does not collide with an obstacle.SOLUTION: A parking assistance system according to an embodiment comprises: an information processing device which is mounted to a vehicle; and a parking lot control device for controlling a movable unit which is provided in a mechanical car parking facility in the parking lot and operates for moving a vehicle in the parking lot. The information processing device transmits an obstacle detection signal to the parking lot control device when an obstacle that may possibly come into contact with the vehicle and/or the movable unit is detected on the basis of output of a vehicle-side sensor that is mounted to a vehicle and acquires information regarding the surrounding of the vehicle. The parking lot control device causes the operation of the movable unit to stop when an obstacle detection signal is received from the information processing device during the operation of the movable unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
