To provide a work assistance device and a work assistance method for accurately specifying the location of a work device.SOLUTION: A work assistance device 10 includes: winch devices 121 to 124 each of which unwinds a wire from each driving point disposed at each vertex of a work target area; a work device 11 around which the wires W1 to W4 unwound from the respective winch devices 121 to 124 are stretched; and a management device 20 that acquires, from the unwinding winch devices 121 to 124, amounts of wires respectively unwound from the driving points. Then, the management device 20 specifies the location of the work device 11 by combining some of the acquired amounts of wires unwound by the respective winch devices.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
