The work assistance device acquires an outline size of a cargo when there is a cargo (step S19), and defines a caution area around the holding unit on the basis of at least the larger of either the outline size of the holding unit and the outline size of the cargo (steps S13, S21, and S22) The work assistance device acquires a first distance, which is a distance between a second measurement distance sensor and an obstruction existing around a cargo handling vehicle on the basis of an output of the second measurement distance sensor (step S14), and acquires a second distance, which is a distance between the caution area and the obstruction, on the basis of a positional relation between the second measurement distance sensor and the caution area and the first distance, and determines whether or not the second distance is within a threshold value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
