To provide a navigation device and a method for determining a target area associated with a vessel.SOLUTION: A navigation device includes a behavior information receiver and a signal processor. The behavior information receiver is configured to determine behavior-related information of a vessel. The signal processor can communicate with the behavior information receiver and is configured to allow the navigation device to determine a change in the direction of movement of the vessel based on the behavior-related information of the vessel. The signal processor is further configured to adaptively determine a target area associated with the vessel based on the change in the direction of movement of the vessel, thereby enabling the navigation device to determine the target area based on the change in the direction of movement of the vessel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
