To provide a technique enabling a high accuracy estimation of a battery full charge capacity.SOLUTION: A full charge capacity estimation method is applied to an automobile that includes: an engine for driving a generator capable of charging a battery; and a control apparatus for starting the engine when a charge ratio of the battery reaches a given first lower-limit charge ratio and driving the engine until the charge ratio exceeds a given upper-limit charge ratio. The full charge capacity estimation method includes: (1) a shutoff step of shutting off a power transmission path from the engine to generator; (2) discharge step of discharging the battery until the charge ratio reaches a second lower-limit charge ratio being lower than the first lower-limit charge ratio; (3) charge step of charging the battery using an external power supply until the charge ratio exceeds an upper-limit charge ratio from the second lower-limit charge ratio; and (4) estimation step of estimating a battery full charge capacity on the basis of battery voltages at a charging start time of the battery and a charging end time thereof, and a current volume supplied to the battery during charging.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
