The wheel position detection device comprises tire sensors 2 provided in the plurality of wheels, and an on-vehicle machine 3 including an on-vehicle radio 31 that can communicate with the tire sensors 2, provided at a position different from positions of the plurality of wheels 5a-5d in the vehicle body 6. The tire sensors 2 include tire radios that can communicate with the on-vehicle machine 3. The on-vehicle machine 3 calculates a distance between the on-vehicle radio 31 and the tire radio as an on-vehicle machine tire distance Lvt, on the basis of a time difference between transmission and reception of a signal at the time when communication is performed between the on-vehicle radio 31 and the tire radio or a physical quantity having correlation with the time difference.
