To provide an intermediate shaft the whirling of which can be suppressed and which can be made light in weight.SOLUTION: An intermediate shaft 5b is configured by axially connecting a contraction shaft 9a and a telescopic shaft 10a, each of which has double pipe structure. The contraction shaft 9a is comprised of a first inner shaft 11a and a first outer cylinder 12a, the first inner shaft 11a is comprised of a hollow shaft body 37 and a cylindrical clamp 38 in the shape of a partial cylinder for reducing the diameter of the shaft body 37. The shaft body 37 has, at an axial end side of an outer periphery, a male spline 42a engaging with a female spline 35 provided on an inner periphery of a first outer cylinder 12a, and has, at an end on the other axial side of the inner periphery, a female serration 47 engaging with a male serration 61 provided on an outer periphery of an end on one axial side of a second outer cylinder 15a composing the telescopic shaft 10a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
