To provide a water drop detection device and a water drop detection method which inspect a water droplet without obstructing the visibility.SOLUTION: A water drop detection device includes an imaging unit that is provided on the side opposite to the surface side of a member and is provided away from the member to image the member, a brightness calculation unit that calculates the brightness of pixels in an image captured by the imaging unit, and a detection unit that detects water droplets adhering to the member on the basis of the brightness calculated by the brightness calculation unit, and the detection unit detects water droplets on the basis of a difference in brightness within a predetermined area in the image and the maximum value of the brightness gradient, which is the amount of change in brightness per pixel pitch in the predetermined area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
