To provide a steering device and a manufacturing method thereof capable of maintaining the lubricity of an intermediate shaft even under a long-term utilization condition.SOLUTION: A steering device 1 comprises: a rack shaft 2; a pinion shaft 3 meshed with the rack shaft 2; a steering shaft 4 having one end portion to which a steering wheel 10 is attached; and an intermediate shaft 6 coupled between the pinion shaft 3 and the steering shaft 4 via universal joints 5 and 5. The intermediate shaft 6 includes: a cylindrical body 61 that has a hollow portion 60; and a shaft-shape body 62 that is partially retained in the hollow portion 60. The shaft-shape body 62 and the cylindrical body 61 are spline-fitted with each other so as to be movable relative to each other in an axial direction but unrotatable relative to each other. Lubricant grooves 620 that hold lubricants are formed in the outer circumference surface of the portion of the shaft-shape body 62 retained in the hollow portion 60 and in a predetermined range R in the axial direction. The cross-sectional area of the lubricant groove 620 at the upper portion side in the predetermined range R is larger than the cross-sectional area of the lubricant groove 620 at the lower portion side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
