To enable an optical action to be stably exhibited in virtual image display.SOLUTION: An HUD is constituted so as to reflect display light at a transmissive member and display a virtual image. The HUD comprises a projector for projecting display light, and a polarization adjustment member 41 for adjusting the polarization of display light and external light and provided on an optical path leading from the projector to the transmissive member. The polarization adjustment member 41 includes a polarizer 42 formed in shape of a sheet having the characteristic of shutting polarization in a direction along a cutoff axis SAp and having within it such a residual stress that is largest in a first residual stress direction RSD1 out of directions along the sheet face, and a support plate 43 formed in shape of a plate that supports the polarizer 42 and having within it such a residual stress that is largest in a second residual stress direction RSD2 out of directions along the pate face. The polarizer 42 and the support plate 43 are pasted to each other so that the first residual stress direction RSD1 runs along the second residual stress direction RSD2.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
