To provide a braking ability estimation device capable of improving an estimation accuracy of a braking ability.SOLUTION: A braking ability estimation device is mounted on a vehicle and estimates a braking ability that is an ability to stop the vehicle. The braking ability estimation device comprises: a road surface condition determination unit 112 for sequentially determining a road surface condition of a road on which an own vehicle 1 that is the vehicle equipped with the braking ability estimation device is traveling; and a braking ability estimation unit 114 for sequentially estimating the braking ability of the own vehicle 1 based on the road surface condition determined by the road surface condition determining unit 112. The braking ability of the own vehicle 1 changes according to the road surface condition. Therefore, by estimating the braking ability of the own vehicle 1 based on the road surface condition, the braking ability of the own vehicle 1 can be estimated more accurately than when the road surface condition is not taken into consideration.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
