To provide a preload inspection method with which a preload value can be calculated more accurately, and to provide a preload inspection method with which it can be more accurately determined whether or not a preload state is acceptable.SOLUTION: The preload inspection method is for a wheel bearing device 1 comprising: an outer member 2 having double-row outside raceway surfaces 2c, 2d; an inner member 3 having double-row inside raceway surfaces 3c, 3d, and consisting of a hub wheel 31 and an inner wheel 32 pressed into a small diameter step part 3a of the hub wheel 31; and double-row rolling bodies 4, 5 respectively interposed between the raceway surfaces 2c, 2d of the outer member 2 and the raceway surfaces 3c, 3d of the inner member 3. The method comprises: a power calculation step S5 in which the outer member 2 or the inner member 3 is rotated in a relative manner to calculate power P; a preload value calculation step S6 in which a preload value F2 is calculated on the basis of the power P calculated in the power calculation step S5; and a pass/fail determination step S7 in which pass/fail determination is made on the basis of whether or not the preload value F2 calculated in the preload value calculation step S6 falls within an allowable range R.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
