To provide a vehicle detector for detecting train cars running on a track, with which the accuracy of calculating the distance to the train cars is prevented from being reduced by an incident angle of a laser beam.SOLUTION: Provided is a train car detector (20) for detecting cars (60a) of a train (60) running on a track (50), said detector comprising: a light projection unit for projecting a laser beam in a plurality of projection directions toward the passing position of train cars; a light receiving unit for receiving each reflected light of each laser beam having been projected by the light projection unit and reflected by an object and outputting an electric signal that corresponds to the received intensity of each reflected light; and a replacement unit for replacing the calculated value of distance to the train cars in each light projection direction with the previously acquired true value of distance to the train cars in each light projection direction, on condition that the elapsed time from when a laser beam is projected by the light projection unit to when the intensity of the electric signal outputted by the light receiving unit exceeds a threshold falls within a prescribed range having been set in accordance with each light projection direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】軌道を走行する列車の車両を検知する車両検知装置において、レーザ光の入射角によって車両までの距離を算出する精度が低下することを抑制する。【解決手段】軌道(50)を走行する列車(60)の車両(60a)を検知する車両検知装置(20)であって、車両の通過位置に向けて、複数の投光方向にレーザ光を投光する投光部と、投光部により投光された各レーザ光が物体で反射された各反射光を受光し、受光した各反射光の強度に応じた電気信号を出力する受光部と、投光部によりレーザ光が投光されてから、受光部により出力された電気信号の強度が閾値を超えるまでの経過時間が、各投光方向に応じて設定された所定範囲に入ったことを条件として、各投光方向における車両までの距離の算出値を、予め取得された各投光方向における車両までの距離の真値に置換する置換部と、を備える。【選択図】 図1
