To provide a wheel detector which can enlarge a ratio (V1/V2) where V1 is a voltage induced in a receiving coil when a wheel is not detected (when there is no wheel) and V2 is a voltage induced when a wheel is detected (when there is a wheel).SOLUTION: A wheel detector 900 which comprises a transmission coil L1 and a receiving coil L2 arranged to put a rail 10 between, constitutes the receiving coil L2 in a flat type coil form (constituted of a single flat coil or laminated flat coils) and arranges the receiving coil L2 in a sensitivity region along a diffused magnetic flux vector flow from the transmission coil L1. 【課題】車輪非検知時(車輪無し時)に受信コイルに誘起される誘導電圧V1と、車輪検知時(車輪有り時)に受信コイルに誘起される誘導電圧V2との比(V1/V2)を大きくすることが可能な車輪検知器を提供する。【解決手段】レール10を挟むように配置される送信コイルL1及び受信コイルL2を備えた車輪検知器900において、受信コイルL2を平面型コイル(単一の平面コイル又は積層された平面コイルによって構成されるもの)で構成し、送信コイルL1からの拡散磁束ベクトル流に沿った感度領域に、受信コイルL2を配置する。更に、送信コイルL1の背面側に、受信コイルL2面を貫通するL1磁束ベクトル調整用の金属板Mを設けることにより、V2がほぼ0になるよう調整できるようにする。【選択図】図9
