To provide a turning unit which can detect a fixed state of a ball screw nut with respect to a driven pulley.SOLUTION: A turning unit includes: a turning side motor; a belt mechanism which has a driven pulley 73 to which rotation of the turning side motor is transmitted; and a ball screw mechanism which has a ball screw nut 91 fitted to an inner periphery of the driven pulley 73. The ball screw nut 91 is fixed to the driven pulley 73 so as not to rotate relatively using a lock nut. A circumferential direction groove 115 extending in a circumferential direction is formed on an inner peripheral surface of the driven pulley 73. A pin 122 inserted into the circumferential direction groove 115 is provided on an outer peripheral surface of the ball screw nut 91. A circumferential direction gap Sc extending in the circumferential direction between the circumferential direction groove 115 and the pin 122 is set to be larger than a minimum gap allowing relative rotation of a pinion shaft and a rotary shaft of the turning side motor by a minimum angle change which can be detected by a pinion angle sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
