To provide an engine control device and an engine control method capable of reducing costs of a system while realizing high power generation efficiency.SOLUTION: An engine control device includes a control portion. The control portion controls an engine to generate electric power to be supplied to a motor as a power source of a vehicle. The engine is not provided with a throttle valve of which an opening is changed according to an operation state of an accelerator pedal in an intake passage, and a diameter of the intake passage is determined to such a diameter that the air providing a first operation region in which heat efficiency of the engine is a prescribed value or more, is passed therethrough. The control portion starts at least one of fuel injection control and ignition control of the engine when an engine rotating speed approaches a value corresponding to the first operation region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】高い発電効率を実現しつつ、システムの低コスト化を図ることができるエンジン制御装置およびエンジン制御方法を提供すること。【解決手段】実施形態に係るエンジン制御装置は、制御部を備える。制御部は、車両の動力源であるモータに供給する電力を発電するためのエンジンを制御する。エンジンは、吸気経路にアクセルペダルの操作状態に応じて開度が変化するスロットルバルブが設けられておらず、かつ、吸気経路の径が、エンジンの熱効率が所定値以上である第1運転領域となる空気量を通過させる径に設定されている。また、制御部は、エンジン回転数が第1運転領域に対応する値付近になった場合に、エンジンの燃料噴射制御と点火制御の少なくとも一方を開始する。【選択図】図1
