To provide an inter-vehicle communication device and an inter-vehicle communication method for efficiently exchanging necessary information without causing tightness of a communication resource due to redundant information concerning an inter-vehicle communication system.SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle communication device which is to be mounted on a vehicle so as to perform communication with another vehicle includes: a reception section for acquiring vehicle information of a communication partner vehicle and information detected by a sensor of the communication partner vehicle; a vehicle peripheral information storage section for storing information received by the reception section and information acquired from an own vehicle sensor and outputting the stored information to an outside; a control section for controlling information to be stored in the vehicle peripheral information storage section and information to be output from the vehicle peripheral information storage section; and a transmission section for transmitting information of the vehicle peripheral information storage section to the communication partner vehicle. The control section includes a selection section for selecting information to be transmitted to the communication partner vehicle based on at least one of a relative speed and a relative traveling direction with the own vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
