To accurately detect a position at which a vehicle 40 can be stopped.SOLUTION: A vehicle stop position detecting method performs steps of: memorizing correlation data 56 showing a relation between a depth Dps of a stop space necessary for a vehicle 40 to be stopped and a width Wps of the stop space; acquiring distance information related to objects around a street; calculating a depth Dfs of an empty space Fs adjacent to the street and a width Wfs of the empty space Fs from the distance information; and determining whether or not the vehicle 40 can be stopped at the empty space Fs on the basis of the correlation data 56, the width Wfs of the empty space Fs and the depth Dfs of the empty space Fs.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
