To prevent harmful effects from being imparted to the traveling of a rear vehicle when riding over steps during traveling.SOLUTION: A vehicle travel control device 50 includes: a step detector 51 for detecting steps on a road surface frontward in a traveling direction; a target vehicle speed setting part 401 for setting a target vehicle speed at the time of reaching a step in accordance with a shape of the step detected by the step detector 51; a transmission control part 403 and a throttle control part 404 for controlling an actuator 61 for a transmission and an actuator 62 for a throttle, so that a vehicle speed at the time of reaching a step is reduced to the target vehicle speed or lower; and a rear vehicle detector 53 for detecting a rear vehicle. When a rear vehicle is detected by the rear vehicle detector 53, the transmission control part 403 and the throttle control part 404 reduce vehicle speed to the target vehicle speed or lower, by deceleration at which the magnitude of the deceleration is a predetermined value or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
