To provide a hybrid construction machine that can increase control responsiveness to variations in workload while maintaining an electric power balance.SOLUTION: A hybrid construction machine includes: an engine; an engine ECU 21; a hydraulic pump configured to be driven by the engine; a power generator 3 configured to assist driving of the engine during powering operation and generate power during regenerative operation; a battery configured to charge or discharge power generated by the power generator 3; an inverter 31a configured to control output of the power generator 3; and a power generator control command device 5 configured to generate a control command and send the control command through the inverter 31a to the power generator 3. The power generator control command device 5 includes: a control command generation unit 51 configured to generate the control command on the basis of a load factor deviation that is a difference between a target engine load factor and an actual engine load factor of the engine; and a control command correction unit 52 configured to correct the load factor deviation on the basis of a rotation deviation that is a difference between a target engine rotation and an actual engine rotation of the engine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
