To provide a method and device for determining the uneven wear of a pneumatic tire in the width direction, in which the presence of uneven wear in the width direction is accurately determined.SOLUTION: The method for determining the uneven wear of a pneumatic tire in the width direction includes: installing a microphone 20 at a position corresponding to at least one of portions 6-8 in a tire width direction TW of a tire 1; rolling the tire 1 at a prescribed speed; measuring the sound pressure of a pattern noise generated by at least one of the portions 6-8 with the microphone 20; comparing a measured energy value E with a reference energy value E0 in a prescribed frequency range Δf of sound pressure of the tire 1 when it is new, thereby determining that there is occurrence of uneven wear in the width direction when the measured energy value E is smaller by at least a prescribed amount than the reference energy value E0.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
