To provide a vehicular cross member and a manufacturing method therefor, capable of achieving weight reduction as well as structural simplification by reduction in the number of components and reduction in the number of welds.SOLUTION: A surface on one side of a metal plate material W is press-molded into a recessed shape and a surface on the other side thereof is press-molded into a protrusion shape, respectively. The surface of on the other side of the metal plate material W is cut into a substantially flat shape by shaving processing. After each of two metal plate materials W1, W2 manufactured in this way is folded down, they are joined to constitute a closed cross-section structure. Thus, each of the metal plate materials W1, W2 can have a thick plate part and a thin plate part, thereby reducing the weight of a cross member. A plurality of panel members with different thickness dimensions are not necessary to weld integrally, which can achieve reduction in the number of components, structural simplification, reduced manufacturing cost by reduction in the number of welds, suppression of heat damage and suppression of rusting.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9

    【課題】部品点数の削減による構造の簡素化および溶接箇所の削減を図りながらも軽量化することができる車体のクロスメンバおよびクロスメンバの製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】金属製板材Wにおける一方側の面を凹状に他方側の面を凸状にそれぞれプレス加工する。金属製板材Wにおける前記他方側の面をシェービング加工により略平坦形状に切削する。このようにして作製された2枚の金属製板材W1,W2をそれぞれ折り曲げた後、閉断面構造を構成するように接合する。これにより、各金属製板材W1,W2それぞれに厚板部と薄板部とを設けることが可能となり、クロスメンバを軽量化することができる。また、板厚寸法が互いに異なる複数のパネル材を一体的に溶接する必要がないため、部品点数の削減を図ることができ、構造の簡素化、および、溶接箇所の削減による製造コストの低廉化、熱害の抑制、錆の発生の抑制を図ることができる。【選択図】図9
