To follow up a preceding vehicle smoothly without making an impact on loaded articles or occupants.SOLUTION: A self-propelled followup vehicle includes a sensing unit 5 capable of being brought into contact with/separated from a preceding vehicle, and a transmission unit 4 for shifting turning force. The sensing unit includes an extendable contact plate 51, and a gas spring 53 for energizing the contact plate in an advancing direction. The transmission unit 4 consists of a hydrostatic non-stage transmission 41 and a gear box, and includes a link mechanism interlocking with the sensing unit. The link mechanism consists of an intermediate lever 46, and a first lever 47 and a second lever 48 pivoted to both end parts of the intermediate lever. The intermediate lever is provided with a first pin 46a loosely fitted to the first lever at one end, and is provided with a second pin 46b with which the second lever comes in contact at the other end in a projecting manner. The first lever is connected to an operation shaft of the transmission unit at one end, and is loosely fitted to the intermediate lever at the other end. The second lever is pivoted coaxially with a rotation fulcrum shaft 46c of the intermediate lever at the base end part, and connected to the sensing unit by a linkage member 55.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
