To shorten a brake distance of a vehicle when an abrupt brake of the vehicle is detected, and to alleviate the damage of an accident to an occupant of the vehicle and a periphery of the vehicle.SOLUTION: This brake distance control device for controlling a brake distance of a vehicle having, for example, an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) comprises: a detection part for detecting an abrupt brake of the vehicle; and a gear change control part for downshifting the AMT when detecting the abrupt brake of the vehicle, and when detecting that an engine of the vehicle over-revolves when connected with a clutch by downshifting the AMT, imparting a brake force to the vehicle by an engine brake by bringing the AMT into a semi-clutched state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
