To determine proper deceleration for acceleration of a preceding vehicle.SOLUTION: A CPU proceeds to S103 to acquire a relative speed to a preceding vehicle from a millimeter wave radar. Then the CPU proceeds to S105 to use the relative speed to calculate a collision prediction time. The CPU calculates the collision prediction time by dividing the inter-vehicle distance between the own vehicle and preceding vehicle by the relative speed. If there is a possibility of a collision, the CPU proceeds to S130 to calculate relative acceleration to the preceding vehicle. The relative acceleration is calculated by differentiating the relative speed with a time. Then the CPU proceeds to S140 to calculate requested deceleration. The CPU calculates the requested deceleration in consideration of the collision prediction time and relative acceleration.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
