To provide a steering device that can absorb shock with an intermediate shaft which can easily be manufactured and whose deformation characteristic can be easily changed.SOLUTION: A steering device includes an intermediate shaft to be a solid member. The intermediate shaft is provided with: a plurality of columnar base parts; and a shock absorption part which is positioned between two adjacent base parts and has a maximum diameter equal to a diameter of the base part or smaller. The shock absorption part is provided with a first taper part and a second taper part whose diameters change along the axial direction of the intermediate shaft. A maximum diameter of the second taper part is equal to or smaller than a minimum diameter of the first taper part. At least a part of the surface of the first taper part draws a first arc in a cross section cutting the intermediate shaft on a flat surface vertical to a diameter direction, and at least a part of the surface of the second taper part draws a second arc. Curvature radius of the second arc is larger than curvature radius of the first arc.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】容易に製造でき且つ容易に変形特性を変更することができる中間シャフトにより衝撃を吸収するステアリング装置を提供すること。【解決手段】ステアリング装置は、中実部材である中間シャフトを備える。中間シャフトは、円柱状である複数の基部と、隣り合う2つの基部の間に位置し且つ最大直径が基部の直径以下である衝撃吸収部と、を備える。衝撃吸収部は、中間シャフトの軸方向に沿って直径が変化する第1テーパー部及び第2テーパー部を備える。第2テーパー部の最大直径は、第1テーパー部の最小直径以下であり。径方向に対して垂直な平面で中間シャフトを切った断面において、第1テーパー部の表面の少なくとも一部が第1円弧を描き、第2テーパー部の表面の少なくとも一部が第2円弧を描く。第2円弧の曲率半径は第1円弧の曲率半径よりも大きい。【選択図】図3
