To provide a locking system and an unlocking method for a motor-driven bicycle that not only can open a lock by the approach of a person with an unlocking device without performing a manual unlocking operation, but also can prevent the storage amount of power in a battery from decreasing even when a motor-driven bicycle is not used.SOLUTION: A locking system for a motor-driven bicycle is provided with a portable unlocking device 50 that unlocks a lock device 30 by transmitting unlocking signals including unique identification information, the locking system for a motor-driven bicycle being configured to be able to open a lock by transmitting the unlocking signals from the unlocking device 50 to a motor-driven bicycle locked by the lock device 30. The motor-driven bicycle is provided with a main body communication unit 41 communicating with the unlocking device 50, a power button turning on and off power supply from a battery 8, and an unlocking control unit 42. Power is supplied to the main body communication unit 41 and the unlocking control unit 42 from the battery 8 by turning on the power button.
