To provide a steering gear, the gripping state of which can be accurately detected, and a gripping determination method for the same.SOLUTION: A steering gear 1 includes: a body part 2 that constitutes an outer shape of the steering gear 1; a charged body sheet 3 with an elastic force, which is arranged in the body part 2; and an electronic control unit 4 that is arranged in the body part 2 and electrically connected to the charged body sheet 3. The charged body sheet 3 generates electric power by distortion generated in itself. The electronic control unit 4 determines whether or not an occupant grips the steering gear 1, on the basis of a power generation signal of the charged body sheet 3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
