PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periphery monitoring system capable of elongating a measurable distance by a light flying time distance measuring method using a low power light source.SOLUTION: A periphery monitoring system mountable on a vehicle comprises: a light source radiating invisible light; a plurality of first photoelectric conversion elements outputting a signal indicating incident ray volume when invisible light which is radiated from the light source and reflected by a target in a first visual field that is a part of the periphery of the vehicle is injected; a plurality of second photoelectric conversion elements constituting a photoelectric conversion element array with the first photoelectric conversion elements and outputting a signal indicating incident ray volume when visible light is injected from a second visual field including the first visual field; and a controller deriving a distance to the target by a light flying time distance measuring method on the basis of the outputted signal of the first photoelectric conversion elements.
