PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate rolling noise on an arbitrary rail section by measuring irregularities on a rail surface at an arbitrary point along another rail section based on an analysis result of changes in irregularity measurement values over a period of time for a rail surface along a prescribed rail section and an irregularity measurement value for a rail surface along another rail section.SOLUTION: A rolling noise estimation method includes: a process for measuring irregularities on a rail surface along a prescribed rail section over a prescribed period of time; a process for analyzing changes over time in irregularity measurement values for the rail surface along the prescribed rail section; a process for measuring irregularities on a rail surface along another rail section that is different to the prescribed rail section; and a process for estimating irregularities on the rail surface at an arbitrary point along the other rail section based on an analysis result for the changes over time and the irregularity measurement value for the rail surface along the other rail section.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
