PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an obstacle in a wider range and accurately detect an obstacle on a road surface.SOLUTION: A detecting device 100 comprises: a transmission circuit 20 for causing a first transmission wave of a first amplitude level and a second transmission wave of a second amplitude level higher than the first amplitude level to be transmitted from an ultrasonic sensor 2 used for a vehicle; a reception circuit 30 for receiving a first reflection wave with respect to the first transmission wave and a second reflection wave with respect to the second transmission wave from the ultrasonic sensor; and a detection unit 12 for detecting an obstacle on the basis of the first reflection wave or the second reflection wave, a reception level of which is larger than a predetermined threshold. The detection unit 12 detects an obstacle on the basis of the second reflection wave, which does not include a second road surface reflection wave, out of the second reflection wave.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
