PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a region recognition device which can properly recognize a traveling region, and a region recognition method.SOLUTION: A region recognition device 10 comprises an image acquisition part 11 for acquiring a photographed image photographed by a monocular camera 21, and an extraction part 12 for extracting edge points of a boundary between left and right both sides in a traveling region in which an own vehicle travels based on the photographed image. The region recognition device 10 also comprises a setting part 13 for setting a plurality of temporary regions being candidates of the traveling region in the photographed image, and the setting part 13 sets a plurality of the temporary regions so that at least partial regions are overlapped on one another. Then, the region recognition device 10 comprises a calculation part 14 for calculating the number of the edge points existing in a plurality of the temporary regions, and a recognition part 15 for recognizing the traveling region on the basis of a plurality of the temporary regions, and the number of the edge points existing in the temporary regions.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
