PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic brake method which alleviates a risk of an impact of an abrupt brake to a driver, and a rear-end collision of a succeeding vehicle to an own vehicle, sets even a cross point or the like as an object for deceleration and braking, and is safe and saved in energy.SOLUTION: When an own vehicle in traveling detects an obstacle such as a vehicle in an own vehicle traveling-road front distance D(v) point in a point in which a distance between an own vehicle and a front obstacle satisfies a relationship of D(v)v' ). Here, D(v): a distance up to the front obstacle of the vehicle in traveling at a speed v, Dd(v): an inertia traveling transition distance of the vehicle in traveling at the speed v between the own vehicle and the front obstacle which is set in advance, Di(v): an inertial travelable distance up to a speed 0 from the speed v, and Db(v): a brake traveling distance up to the speed 0 from the speed v.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
