PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector which reliably grasps an obstruction regardless of a surface shape or a reflection rate of the obstruction, and moreover conducts self diagnosis of an operative condition.SOLUTION: A detector of a railroad crossing obstruction includes: a sensor circuit SNa that incorporates a laser sensor LZ for planarly radiating laser light of a predetermined beam size at a position of a reference pole Pai, and that outputs a first signal Dti indicating whether or not a reflection point of the laser light is included in a predetermined monitoring area AR, a second signal Non indicating whether or not the reflection point of the laser light is the reference pole Pai, and a third signal ER indicating a self-diagnostic result; and a railroad crossing control unit that determines the first signal, the second signal and the third signal in order to take necessary corresponding actions.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
