PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive unit which is used for an electric assist bicycle and comprises a rotation detection device in addition to a torque detection device and that improves detection resolution of the rotation detection device.SOLUTION: A drive unit 50 is used for an electric assist bicycle 10, and comprises a crank shaft 54, a drive sprocket 58, a torque detection device 56B, a rotary member 56, and a rotation detection device 130. The rotary member includes a coupling shaft part 56A, an output shaft part 118, and a one-way clutch 56C. The coupling shaft part is coupled to the crank shaft. The output shaft part is fitted with the drive sprocket. The rotation detection device includes a detected part 132A and a detecting part 134. The one-way clutch 56C includes a drive member rotating together with the crank shaft. The detected part 132A includes a cylinder part 144 and an annular part 146 fixed to the drive member 102. The detecting part 134 is arranged at a position where the detection part overlaps with the detected part 132A when viewed from an axial direction of the crank shaft.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
