PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record data for diagnosing a failure causing the insufficiency of an output while suppressing a load of calculation without performing complicated processing, in a failure diagnosis device of an internal combustion engine (engine 1) which is mounted to, for example, an automobile.SOLUTION: An abnormal time at which an abnormal state that an accelerator opening Acc is not smaller than a first prescribed opening Acc1, and a ratio (torque achievement rate: Tact/Treq) of actual output torque Tact with respect to required torque Treq is lower than a prescribed value (a) continues is measured (step ST4: counting means). When the abnormal time is not shorter than a preset time, and the accelerator opening Acc is not smaller than a second prescribed opening Acc2, it is determined that a diagnosis of a failure is necessary (step ST7: determination means), and prescribed data are recorded in recording means (for example, backup RAM 104) (step ST9: control means).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
