PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber for a railroad vehicle which achieves excellent impact absorption performance and enables downsizing.SOLUTION: A shock absorber (1) includes: multiple rubber plates (2); first metal plates (3); second metal plates (4); a first coupling member; and a second coupling member. The multiple rubber plates (2) are disposed so as to be overlapped in a vertical direction. The first metal plate (3) is bonded to one of an upper surface and a lower surface of each rubber plate (2). The second metal plate (4) is bonded to a surface of the upper surface and the lower surface of each rubber plate (2) which is opposite to the surface where the first metal plate (3) is bonded. The first coupling member includes a front block member (5a) and a rear block member (5b), is linked to all of the first metal plates (3), and is connected with a coupler. The second coupling member includes a front plate member (6a) and a rear plate member (6b), is linked to all of the second metal plates (4), and is connected with a vehicle body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
