PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably determine necessity of high beam.SOLUTION: A vehicle exterior environment recognition device comprises a computer operating as: an illumination deriving part for deriving vehicle exterior illumination using an imaging device; an integrated value deriving part for deriving addition/subtraction values so that the lower the illumination (the greater the exposure) is, the greater the addition/subtraction value becomes compared to the case with higher illumination (smaller exposure) and deriving an integrated value by integrating the addition/subtraction values; and a necessity determination part for determining whether or not high beam of head lamps is necessary on the basis of the integrated value. The necessity determination part determines that the high beam is available when the integrated value is equal to or greater than a predetermined first integrated threshold value, and that the high beam is unnecessary when the integrated value is less than a predetermined second integrated threshold value, which is smaller than the predetermined first integrated threshold value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5

    【課題】ハイビームが不要か否かの判定を安定させる。【解決手段】車外環境認識装置では、コンピュータが、撮像装置を通じて車外の照度を導出する照度導出部と、照度が低い(露光量が大きい)ほど、照度が高い(露光量が小さい)場合に比べて値が大きくなるように加減算値を導出し、加減算値を積算した積算値を導出する積算値導出部と、積算値に基づいてヘッドランプのハイビームが不要か否かを判定する要否判定部、として機能することを特徴とする。そして、要否判定部は、積算値が、所定の第1積算閾値以上となるとハイビームが利用可能と判定し、積算値が、第1積算閾値より小さい第2積算閾値未満となるとハイビームが不要と判定する。【選択図】図5
