PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the reverse rotation of an engine due to reverse input from a propeller.SOLUTION: An outboard motor 2 includes: an engine 5; a crank shaft rotation sensor 25; a propeller shaft 19 coupled to a propeller 4; and a forward and backward movement switching mechanism 20. The forward and backward movement switching mechanism 20 is switched between a shift-in state and a neutral state. The outboard motor 2 includes: a neutral switch 33 for detecting whether it is in the shift-in state or the neutral state; an intake passage 50 which supplies air into a combustion chamber 49; a throttle valve 48; an intake pressure sensor 51; and an engine ECU 6. The engine ECU 6 determines whether a reverse rotation recording condition is established or nor, on the basis of the output of sensors 25, 33, and 51, and if the condition is established, reverse rotation information is stored. The reverse rotation recording condition includes a condition in which intake pressure becomes larger than an intake pressure threshold value after the neutral state is switched to the shift-in state, while the crank shaft 23 is rotated in a normal direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4

    【課題】プロペラからの逆入力に起因するエンジンの逆転を高精度で検出する。【解決手段】船外機2は、エンジン5と、クランク軸回転センサ25と、プロペラ4に結合されたプロペラ軸19と、前後進切替機構20とを含む。前後進切替機構20は、シフトイン状態と、ニュートラル状態とに切り替わる。船外機2は、シフトイン状態およびニュートラル状態のいずれの状態であるかを検出するニュートラルスイッチ33と、燃焼室49に空気を供給する吸気通路50と、スロットルバルブ48と、吸気圧センサ51と、エンジンECU6とを含む。エンジンECU6は、センサ類25,33,51の出力に基づき、逆転記録条件の成否を判断し、その条件が成立すると、逆転情報を記憶する。逆転記録条件は、クランク軸23が正転方向に回転している状態でニュートラルからシフトイン状態に切り替わった後に、吸気圧が吸気圧閾値よりも大きくなるという条件を含む。【選択図】図4
