PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the protection of the rider of a bicycle by determining whether a collision object is the bicycle even in the case of not detecting that the collision object is a pedestrian.SOLUTION: A protection apparatus includes: a pressure detector 24 for detecting a collision with a pedestrian; acceleration sensors 26A, 26B for respectively detecting deformation amounts of a vehicular bumper at plural positions along a direction of height of a vehicle on a lower side of the vehicle than a position of detection by the pressure detector 24; and a control device 12 for performing control to activate an active device 28 in a case where the pressure detector 24 detects no collision with the pedestrian, with individual deformation amounts detected by the acceleration sensors 26A, 26B at the plural positions exceeding a predetermined threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
