PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack shaft which is excellent in durability without the necessity for correcting the warpage of an end part region including both end parts of a region in which a rack tooth row in a longitudinal direction of the rack shaft are arranged, a steering device using the rack shaft, and a manufacturing method of the rack shaft.SOLUTION: A rack shaft 3 has a hollow shaft-shaped shaft part 30, and a rack tooth row arranged at a part of a peripheral region in a prescribed range of the shaft part 30 in a longitudinal direction, and is applied with quenching treatment and tempering treatment. A cross section area of the shaft part 30 at a cross section orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the shaft part 30 is constant in an end part region 3b including both end parts of a region in which the rack tooth row is arranged, and in an intermediate region 3a including a center part of the region in which the rack tooth row is arranged, the cross section area of the shaft part 30 is formed smaller than a cross section area of the end part region 3b.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5

    【課題】ラックシャフトの長手方向におけるラック歯列が設けられた領域の両端部を含む端部領域を歪矯正する必要がなく、耐久性に優れたラックシャフト、このラックシャフトを用いたステアリング装置、及びラックシャフトの製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】中実構造の軸状の軸部30と、軸部30の長手方向所定範囲における一部の周方向領域に設けられたラック歯列とを有し、焼入れ処理及び焼戻し処理が施されたラックシャフト3であって、軸部30の長手方向に直交する断面における軸部30の断面積が、ラック歯列が設けられた領域の両端部を含む端部領域3bでは一定であり、ラック歯列が設けられた領域の中央部を含む中間領域3aでは、軸部30の断面積が端部領域3bにおける断面積よりも小さく形成されている。【選択図】図5
