PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake shoe provided with a friction material whose frictional coefficient is reduced to a level same as that of a cast iron-based frictional material while securing braking properties under dry or wet conditions, and a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: Provided is a brake shoe 1 provided with a friction material 3 including flake graphite and granular graphite by 20 to 30 vol.% in total. The brake shoe 1 is produced by a production method comprising: a pre-molding step where a friction material composition containing flake graphite and granular graphite by 20 to 30 vol.% in total is press-molded to obtain a pre-molded body; and a heating compression molding step where the pre-molded body is charged to a heat molding die, a base metal is superimposed thereon, and heating compression molding is performed to obtain a brake shoe 1 having a desired shape.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
