PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the risk of an excessive amount of charge to a battery mounted in a hybrid electric vehicle during a temperature increase control over the battery.SOLUTION: A battery temperature increase controller exerting a temperature increase control over a battery mounted in a hybrid electric vehicle including an internal combustion engine and a motor-generator, comprises: a charge and discharge control unit repeatedly charging and discharging the battery in accordance with a predetermined pulse charge and discharge pattern when the battery is at a low temperature; and a charge amount restriction unit restricting a charge amount in the pulse charge and discharge pattern if it is predicted that the motor-generator generates regenerative electric power.
