PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of automatically setting a detection area for easily and surely detecting a detection object, such as a vehicle.SOLUTION: A feature quantity SQ extracted on the basis of a linear component LE is selected from a picked-up image acquired by an imaging device in image processing, and a detection area DA being a final object is defined on the basis of the selected feature quantity SQ. Since the linear component LE exists from the beginning within an imaging area, such as a boundary line and a central traffic strip of a road, and the like, for example, in the case that the imaging object is a vehicle and a detection area is a road, the linear component LE can directly be acquired from the picked-up image, that is, an input image, and there is no need that something likely to be a marker is previously prepared separately. In addition, the accuracy of the shape of a road and the accuracy of the measurement of a distance are easily secured. Then, the setting of a detection area can easily and surely be performed.

    【課題】簡易かつ確実に車両等の検出対象について検出する検出エリアの設定を自動的に行うことができる画像処理装置を提供すること。【解決手段】画像処理において、撮像装置で取得された撮像画像から直線成分LEに基づいて抽出された特徴量SQを選択し、選択された特徴量SQに基づいて、最終目的である検出エリアDAの画定を行っている。この直線成分LEは、例えば撮像対象が車両であり、検出エリアが道路であるという場合には、道路の境界線や中央分離帯等のように撮像範囲内に初めから存在するので、撮像画像すなわち入力画像から直接的に取得可能であり、撮像範囲内に目印となるようなものを予め別途準備しておくという必要がない。また、道路の形状の正確性や距離の測定の正確性についても、確保しやすい。従って、検出エリアの設定を簡易かつ確実に行うことができる。【選択図】図5
