PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage battery unit and a railway vehicle capable of reducing both the occurrence of failure and labor required for maintenance.SOLUTION: A storage battery unit 2 is loaded under the floor 11 of a railway vehicle 1 and includes a plurality of storage batteries 21 and a control device 22 for monitoring or protecting charge and discharge of the storage batteries 21. The storage batteries 21 are disposed in a battery box 21a which forms a sealed space, and juxtaposed in the traveling direction of the railway vehicle 1, in a detachable manner from the side face part of the railway vehicle 1. The control device 22 is disposed in a control box 22a, which forms a sealed space, in a manner adjacent to the battery box 21a in the width direction of the railway vehicle 1, and inside the width direction of the railway vehicle 1.
