PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular occupant protection device capable of improving protection performance of an occupant during an offset collision.SOLUTION: When either one of a front face right acceleration sensor 2 and a front face left acceleration sensor 3 which are provided on a front face of a vehicle and either one of a side face right acceleration sensor 4 and a side face left acceleration sensor 5 which are provided on right and left side faces of the vehicle detect acceleration of a front face threshold and side face thresholds LTH or more, respectively, an airbag controller 9 deploys and operates airbags 10 to 15. An acceleration threshold storage device 8 stores the front face threshold and a plurality of side face thresholds LTH which are different from each other. An image processing arithmetic device 7 image-processes/operates image data of an on-vehicle camera 6, and detects an offset ratio, an offset direction, a collision angle, a collision direction and a relative speed just before another vehicle performs offset collision with the vehicle. The airbag controller 9 selects one side face threshold from the stored side face thresholds LTH on the basis of the detection results.

    【課題】オフセット衝突時において、乗員の保護性能を向上させることが可能な車両用乗員保護装置の提供。【解決手段】車両の前面に設けられた前面右加速度センサ2および前面左加速度センサ3のいずれかと、車両の左右側面に設けられた側面右加速度センサ4および側面左加速度センサ5のいずれかとが、それぞれ前面閾値および側面閾値LTH以上の加速度を検出した場合に、エアバッグコントローラー9は、エアバッグ10〜15を展開作動させる。加速度閾値記憶装置8には、前面閾値および互いに値の異なる複数の側面閾値LTHを記憶している。画像処理演算装置7は、車載カメラ6の画像データを画像処理・演算し、他車両が車両にオフセット衝突する直前のオフセット率、オフセット方向、衝突角度、衝突方向、相対速度を検出する。エアバッグコントローラー9は、これらの検出結果に基づいて、記憶された複数の側面閾値LTHの中から一つを選択する。【選択図】図1
