PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for calculating a wear amount of a trolley wire, enabling a wear amount of a trolley wire to be calculated even when a sliding surface of the trolley wire is not flat.SOLUTION: The method for calculating a wear amount of a trolley wire is provided in which the shape of a trolley wire 11 being a wear amount 11b measurement object is measured by scanning and irradiating a lower part side 11a of the trolley wire 11 with a laser beam, and the wear amount 11b of the trolley wire 11 is calculated by comparing the shape of the measured trolley wire 11 and the shape of a trolley wire 12 before used with each other. The device for calculating a wear amount of a trolley wire includes: a shape measurement part for measuring the shape of the trolley wire 11 by scanning and irradiating the lower part side 11a of the trolley wire 11 being the wear amount 11b measurement object with a laser beam; and a wear amount calculation part for calculating the wear amount 11b of the trolley wire 11 by comparing the shape of the trolley wire 11 measured by the shape measurement part and the shape of the trolley wire 12 before used with each other.
