PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly detect a pedestrian or a light vehicle which could collide with or touch the vehicle of a user's own.SOLUTION: When it is determined in a step S1 that the vehicle is slowing down, or determined in a step S2 that the vehicle is running slowly, or determined in a step S3 that the vehicle has just turned a curve at low speed, or determined in a step S4 that the vehicle is in the vicinity of an intersection, a both end priority object detection process for monitoring a detection area on either side of the monitoring area intensively with high sensitivity in a step S8. The present invention can be applied to, for example, a laser radar device for vehicles.
